FOR ME...NO TO MARRIAGE

I won’t embrace marriage
It’s nothing but a cage
I will remain single
No matter how long I mingle
For to remain a Miss
And live in peace
Is better than being a wife
With a battered life

I won’t embrace marriage
Not at any age
I will never marry
On this I will tarry
For it’s better to remain alone
With no broken bone
Than to be a Mrs.
Blending with punches

I won’t embrace marriage
Oh No! My mind I won't change
For I don’t want to end up like Patience
Or Endurance
Two lovely pets
Now accustomed to their husbands' belts

I won't embrace marriage
Until this brutal drainage
Sweeping through marriages in my land
Comes to an end

MERE GONG

His name is Obong
A graduate from the university of Hong-kong
Where he bagged a degree in the x-ray of song
A course he was warned against for long
For his parents want him to belong
To the league of the mighty and the strong
This he can't by being a 'mere gong'

But Obong
Remained resolute and strong
That he might prove his parents wrong
By writing his name among the great throng
Even as a 'mere gong'
In a time not too long

YOUR MAGIC

If your magic can't make you operate a plane
Or make you build a crane

If it can't add any gain
Like the white brain
Who had decanted the strain
In his people's membrane
Or can't make you attain
Beyond that in reign

If your magic can't drain
The insanity on every lane

Then it mustn't cause more pain
To the decaying vein
More rain
And wash away the nutrient on the plain
More stain
To drive us beyond sane

Rather let it maintain
Sustain
And retain the lane
Since it can't add any gain

THE POET CRY

I stole their time with my words
Hoping that they'll change our worlds
I engaged them with my piece
Thinking they'll give us true justice
I coaxed their hearts on my paper
That they might hear and answer our prayer
I pierced their soul with my pen
Now it's bled lives beneath their den

May the lord of verses
Chastise their bruises
May the father of inspiration
Repay their exploration
And may the God of poetry
Reward their inventory

MY STAY IN NIGERIA

Never being this decorated
Never being this re-visited
Till I came to Nigeria
The giant of Africa

Never being this widely x-rayed
Never being this beautifully accompanied
Till I came to Nigeria
The giant of Africa

Always in cage
Among words' luggage
Till I came to Nigeria
The giant of Africa

What a wonderful place
To reveal my masked face

But my pain
What is the gain
Of making me an offer
To the unrepentant sinner
Of my being granted
To the impenitent wanted
Of giving me out
To men who aren't tired of the bout

ROME ON EVERY ROAD

On my street
Churches are like fleet
Same on church road
They are at every node

A dive
Into mission drive
Was like yell
In hell
'Praise the lord' from the east
'Alleluia' from the west
'The lord is good' from the north
'All the time' from the south
All at the same time
Tearing down my eardrums like I had committed a crime

Getting to my friend's lane
The story was like the previous plain
The first house was a church
The last, a worshiping perch

And as if that was not all
Our usual viewing hall
At the centre of the close
Behind my friend's enclose
Now bears a new name
Spreading Heaven's Aim and Mission on Earth (SHAME)

But with all this
Many lacks internal peace
Evil still reign supreme
Along the stream
A contradiction
Of an ideal situation
Still the house beside my home
Is about becoming another Rome

MY ABILITY IN MY DISABILITY

I hoped while others were walking
I flew while they were running
Still I couldn't meet up with their pace
I couldn't beat them in the race

Two limbs we all possess
Pinnacle we pray to access
But when it comes to height beyond the ground
Which is of frequent sight on this land
Sorrow finds in me a territory
Impossibility takes over my story

But I won't remain impounded
And allow my story become confounded
I won't watch it watered
Neither will I allow it slaughtered

I might be challenged physically
But mentally
I'll fight my neglect
I'll overcome my defect

GOD SAVE OUR NATION

God save my nation
From its' leader's transformation
For he gradually make destruction
The best profession

Having caused so much commotion
With their unholy presentation
And offering gory transportation
For unsuspecting souls too many to mention
Who had no intention
To journey yet to their heavenly mansion
Our Government favours the adoption
And granting the perpetrators of this bastardization
Who had refuse to embrace round-table discussion
Amnesty with mouth-watery  compensation
Their intention
They will stop this aberration

But they see not that their action
Will only give birth to further sects creation
With destruction
As the sole aim of their formation
Since there is no condemnation
But commendation
And compensation
For havoc creation

So I beckon on our 'oga at the top' in Aso mansion
To consider the opposite reaction
Of his reversible decision
Before it gives birth to an uncontrollable situation
And spells greater doom on our nation

THERE IS NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN

Oh I often sit and ponder
What a world I wonder
Where a father
Defiles his daughter
A son erases his father
Because of his lover
Where a dad
Penetrates the lass of his lad
And will boldly address the same son
'There is noting new under the sun'

Oh I often sit and ponder
What a world I wonder
Where sisters
Share lovers
Where mothers
Warm the bed of their daughters' lovers
And when they are done
They claim 'There is nothing new under the sun'

Oh I often sit and ponder
What a world I wonder
Where lesbianism is the game
And being a gay is never a shame
All in the name of fun
'There is nothing new under the sun'

Oh I often sit and ponder
What a world I continue to wonder
When shall we be done
With 'There is nothing new under the sun'

THE VEIL

The veil is a tiny fitting
Like the inn's covering
Which opens when anything
Touches it at no particular timing

But unlike the inn's covering
Nothing can open this veil thing
Les it's its' time of opening
For the man that is passing
From this lowering
To the place of resting
Where the angels are praising
And the saints are adoring
Every moment without ending
Endlessly without tiring
And forever without failing

Adieu beloved now forever missing
Till we meet again where there is no more crying
That peaceful end where there is no more wailing

Sleep on Margret
Sleep on and take your rest

GOODBYE BELOVED

We were together yesterday
Making plans for today
Plans on how to better the lives of many
'Torí àjọjẹ ò dùn, bẹ́nì kan òní'

But now she lives no more
To liberate the poor
No more
To lift them off the floor
Of abject poverty
Before it becomes a heredity
No more
To fulfill her core
And utmost obligation
To her people and her nation

Our beloved is no more
Adieu Mrs. Ọláyinká Fúnmiláyọ̀
Till we meet at that place
Where it is peace at every phase

BEFORE HER

Before her I melted like wax
My voice became hard to fix
The unknown me wore the garment of revelation
A situation beyond my redemption

So out of fear
I became a liar
For I never wanted to lose her friendship
Even though what I wanted was a relationship
A disagreement
With our arrangement
At start
To pan away from things of the heart

Maybe someday I'll find my feet
And the nail's head I'll hit
Maybe someday I'll get hold of my courage
And reveal to her my package

But till that day
She will I cherish in my inmost bay
As the one I choose to be with
Every breath
I make on earth

ALL OF THE ABOVE

Choose an option
That is your best description of the action
Of most of our leaders
And elected officers

Option A is Corruption
Next is Misappropiation
Then Bribery
Or Money laundry

But if none is suitable for you
This last will surely do
ALL OF THE ABOVE is the option
The one I highly favour as the solution

ONE SIDED WISDOM

They proposed death by hanging
As consequence for human kidnapping
A measure to reduce its’ high rate
And make men live in a peaceful state
O What wisdom
From the lawmakers kingdom

But what of public fund misappropriation
And corruption?
An equivalent of fund kidnapping
And trafficking

Aren't they producing the same fruit?
Or is there something that makes one's product sweet?

Kidnapping is kidnapping
Whether of the living or of the non living

I LOVE YOU

I love you not because of what you have
But because of who I have
Beauty vanishes
Money finishes
But the who you are
Remains forever
It can only get better
As the future unfolds brighter

I love you not because of what you possess
But because of who I possess
Acquired may fly away
Achievement might refuse to stay
But the person behind the face
Remain through every phase
It can only become better
As the journey becomes deeper

I love you because you are YOU
Truly for this I do

RAPE

Raped
And abused
Now she is miserable
And highly unstable
With low self esteem
Driving her to the extreme

‘It’s your fault’ was the response
‘Why do you dress like that’ they said in their defence
But is there any justification
For this bastardization?
Any basement
For this debasement?

No wonder the victim
Continues to swim
In silence
For her story makes no sense
Like that of her mate
Who had suffered the same fate

No wonder she continues to live with the guilt
Of what was never her fault

Let’s continue the fight against rape
By spreading and replaying the message like the tape
And by being a listening society
Where victims can confidently recount their adversity

WAR ZONE

Sola was disowned by her parent
Because she is pregnant
How she came about it
Concerns them not

She had brought them shame
She had destroyed their name
The only daughter of Otunba and Iya Aafin Folorunsho
The custodians of our culture
Is about becoming a mother
Of a child with an unknown father

But how soon they forget
That traveling is their pet
And she is always at the mercy of Uncle Abass
A professor of abuse

And whenever they return
To find her on
They shower praises on her uncle
Who had shown that he was capable
Without asking
How she was faring

Now she is pregnant
Their failure to keep their covenant
Still she is to bear the brunt alone
Oh! what a war zone
Where you face the music of your mistake
And in others punishment you'll still partake

I AM BACK AGAIN

I am back again
This time on a higher plain
Bigger
And brighter
A fulfillment of a promise made
A confirmation of a debt paid

Thanks be to God for helping you to on
Till my return
Thanks be to him that I met you well
Even though situations around mirror hell
To him be the glory for the opportunity
To journey
Once again together
That we might make the future better

In this new tenure
May you achieve success beyond measure
Breakthrough beyond thought
Greatness beyond sight
And joy beyond say
That will propel you into the month of May
